St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP)

The SVP is a lay international Christian organisation, which befriends those in need and provides them with practical assistance. Our South Wight members visit people in the local area who are suffering from loneliness, anxiety and poverty. Our work is based on personal contact and visits are undertaken by two members at a time, so the more members the Society has means more people can be visited. Members and beneficiaries arrange times to meet. SVP’s actions follow Christ’s teachings as outlined in St Matthew’s Gospel – ‘Lord when did I do these things for you?” Our Lord replied: ‘When you did it for the least of my brothers, you did it for me’ (cf. Matt. 25:37-40). In his letter, St James writes: “Faith, without good works, is dead!” (James 2:26).

All Conferences (local parish groups) need men, women and young people to reach out to those in need. All members hold a DBS certificate because we are helping vulnerable adults and children.

We meet  on the third Saturday of the month at 10am in Sacred Heart Church Hall, Shanklin. Anyone who wishes to become a member or knows someone who needs assistance should contact us via the Parish Office.
